Going to Japan
Not once, but twice, during the most beautiful times in the year. How many people are lucky enough to visit during Sakura (Cherry Blossom) and Momiji (changing colours of the maple leaves) season and watch as the they reach their peak.

In my mind, I can recall the vivid moments of watching as the changes occur, of watching the thousands of other people admire and stare at the amazing change as nature moves from one season to another. Definitely an experience of a lifetime, although I wouldn't hesitate to revisit again if I had another opportunity.

Spending Time with Family
This title provides both happy and sad memories. It is the year in which my family has probably spent the most time together, when even seas and different countries could not keep us apart. It made me realise how important it is to spend time and to keep in touch. There were many happy memories of us gathering, eating and laughing during the year. There were also many memories that still cause tears to well up in my eyes. While family was brought back together, the reason for our reunion was not what we hoped it would be.

In September, my mum's younger sister passed away after a decade long battle with cancer. She fought valiantly and crossed the finish line knowing that she had run an amazing race. That she had lived a life worthy of the calling that had been on her from the time of her conception. There were no regrets as she knew her time on this Earth was coming to an end. When family came to see her, knowing it was probably for the last time, we saw her still living life with full vigour, savouring every moment she had left. As she struggled for breath and lost track of time, she still managed to encourage others, urging them not to mourn for her but to be happy and to live, to laugh and to enjoy life.
And that is how I remember her.
A New Chapter
Most recently, just a few weeks ago, I had the privilege of graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Education. I am now a qualified teacher, able to earn money when I am in a class with 30 or so individuals. I am excited and kinda scared. But mainly excited. Thanks to every one that has been part of the long journey (that began in July 2004) and has supported me through the good and especially the tough times faced. It means so much more to me than you could ever imagine. Thank you once again.

And that brings to the end my top 3 memories of the year. Thanks for reading. Have a great 2009.
