Vital or irrelevant?

To tell or not to tell? That is the question.

Here's a scenario. Ana is an 18 yr old who still lives at home, loves her music and wants to join a rocking band. When she auditions and makes it into the band, she has to decide what she's going to tell her mum. You see, Ana's mum thinks that being in a band is really all about sex, drugs, rock & roll and has forbidden her to get involved in that scene.

If Ana mentions to her mum that she has music rehearsals but neglects to mention that she's the bass player of a rocking band playing gigs at the local pub, is she lying to her? Or is she merely omitting information that she thinks is non vital as she is considered an adult in the eyes of the law & capable of making her own decision?
